Sky High

Ensemble
Top: Express
Handbag: NY&Co
Skirt: NY&Co
Pumps: Paris Hilton

I entitled this blog "Sky High" because of the height of these Paris Hilton shoes. And no I did not buy these shoes because I'm a Paris Hilton fan (and I'm not a fan, just for clarification), but because they were on sale at Burlington, and I thought they were fantastic! I totally knew I could rock these heels because even though they looked high on the shelf the platform in the front of the shoe would help me out....NOT! Even with the platform these shoes still felt high, and I think I might have struggled a bit and broke my own "If you can't walk it, don't rock it" heel rule! HAHAHA Not only are they high, but they are actually a bit heavy! Whatever that black material is made out of clomps, but whatever, the shoes sure made the outfit dang sexy! HAHAHA, and luckily for me I was sitting for most of the day.

STRIPED COMFORTABLY

Ensemble:
Top: Mossimo (Target)
Skirt: Merona (Target)
Socks: Navy Trouser Socks (Burlington)
Shoes: Mossimo ($9 @ Target)
Earrings: Aldo Accessories

I wore this very comfy outfit to a very chill dinner night on Saturday with friends. I'm still able to pull off wearing some socks in the evening here in Houston, because it's not as hot...but the humidity has finally kicked in. My hair has been going every which way lately. I thought having the new short hair cut would help...but it hasn't...lol. So I'm back to pulling this short hair up from time-to-time. I'm madly in love with this skirt made out of sweatpant material. It's so comfy, but cute with it's little bow! Love it!!

SUNDAY BEST by The Southern Fashion Bloggers

Happy Hump Day!!! I joined a group on IFB for Southern Fashion Bloggers and they started an idea called guest blogging, where we all blog on a topic, and share the links of all the other bloggers posting on the same topic. A really neat idea, and a great way to change it up! Here are the links of the other Bloggers

Knowing that we would be bloggin on Sunday outfits, I waited to post my Easter outfit for this entry. This is what I wore for East---er what I love to call RESURRECTION Sunday. I'm afraid Easter has become too commercial like Christmas, and we forget the true meaning of that glorious day. The meaning that after Jesus died for our sins the afternoon on Good Friday, he rose from the dead on the third day like he said he would. HE LIVES!! But since typing out resurrection is long, I will use Easter for the rest of this post! haha

Ensemble
Dress: Charlotte Russe (Circa 5 years ago)
Necklace: Wish Boutique
Belt: Nine West (Burlington)
Watch: New York & Company
Shoes: Bakers

The best part about this Sunday outfit, is that it was free!! Why was it free? Because it came from shopping in my own closet. I don't know what I was doing the last few weeks leading up to Easter, but time just got away from me, and I never went shopping for an Easter dress. I was bummed thinking I had nothing to wear, when I decided to shop my own closet. SURELY, with all of these clothes I had to have SOMETHING in this closet to wear!! So I hunted through my (recently swapped into my closet) Spring dresses and found this sky blue dress peaking out. What a perfect color for Easter!! The last time I wore this dress it was for my college graduation.

I love to wear dresses on Sunday, and Easter was no exception. I wear dresses to go to church, and then usually to brunch with friends. Wearing a dress on Sunday is a staple for me, I don't even think twice about it. Occasionally if I'm out of dresses, I may wear a nice slack/work outfit to church, but I much prefer the pretty dress with cute accessories and great heels. Growing up, my sister and I weren't allowed to wear pants to church, and I remember crying on some Sunday mornings because I didn't want to wear panty-hose! HAHA, but now that I'm older, I just shave and nix the tights and I'm much happier!

What do you like to wear on Sundays?? Here are a some of my previous Church Sunday outfits:

And sometimes when I don't go to church for whatever reason I still like to dress up for Brunches!! Here are some of my Sunday Brunch Outfits

What do you like to do on Sundays? Chill and watch Sports? Go to Church? Prepare for the work week? Let me know in your comments!!

Your style (in couple of words): Though I like to wear anything that looks good on me, I'd have to say my style is more modern & trendy. I like current pieces more than vintage, and I like to try out some trends if I think they work for me, not because they are the "new thing"

PINK

Ensemble:
Necklace: New York & Company
Cardigan: Target
Tank Top: Charlotte Russe
Belt: Nine West (Burlington)
Skirt: New York & Company
Heels: Bakers

In preparation for Easter, I was inspired to wear a church-esque outfit to work. The bright colors and white are perfect for a church ensemble for Easter. Actually when I got dressed, I thought I should change, and actually save this look for Sunday, but I'm sure I'll find something great to wear on Sunday also. Plus I was way too excited to wear this skirt to wait a few more days! I love this flowy A-line skirt from NY&C. Everything about it is great, the fit, the length, and the colors. It also looks good with a top tucked in...I had a hard that morning deciding on if I wanted to wear the shirt tucked in or out. This skirt provides a lot of styling opportunities. I was even going to wear it with a light, sky blue tank top, but liked the pink better with it!

This outfit is definitely one that can change a million times in one day with the following options
1. Wear the Cardigan fully-buttoned
2. Wear the Cardigan half-buttoned
3. Wear the belt on the outside of the cardigan with the cardigan open
4. Wear the belt on the outside of the cardigan with the cardigan buttoned
5. Tuck the tank top inside the skirt, and place the belt over the skirt

I'm sure this skirt will be featured many times on this blog throughout the summer, and you can see how many ways I can style it!

For lunch, my two co-workers and I met up with our friend in the area, Monica. She looked so chic, I asked her to pose for a picture to feature in my blog! Her handbag is amazing because it's made out of seatbelt material! So unique!

She bought her handbag from Harvey's Seatbelt Bags. They have so many cute designs!

And as promised here's some more styling tips from Instyle's "The New Secrets of Style" Book
Head to Toe Slenderizing Tricks
Choose looks that are either "short over long" or "long over short"

  • Cropped jacket over a knee-length shift will give your waist definition while lengthening your bottom half

  • Long jacket with skinny pants or a tunic over a shorter pencil skirt that hits above or at the knee will provide a top-to-bottom slimming effect

As An Audience Member Does It

Last night I had the opportunity to be apart of the studio Audience for "America's Got Talent". They were wrapping up their final round of auditions and their last city stop was Houston, TX. So a friend of mine picked up tickets for the final showing. Closer to the show she sent us the dress code for being an audience member (who knew there was a dress code?). It was pretty strict and went as follows:

NO JEANS, NO T-SHIRTS, NO HATS, NO SHORTS, NO WHITE TOPS, OR NO CLOTHING WITH LOGOS ALLOWED. YOU MUST DRESS NICELY FOR ADMITTANCE. NO EXCEPTIONS!

PLEASE WEAR DARK or BRIGHT COLOR CLOTHING!!!
BUT NO ALL WHITE CLOTHING

NO OPEN-TOED SHOES OR HEELS ALLOWED. Due to safety restrictions, you may not wear any open-toed shoes, No sandals, No flip-flops and No open-toed heels. You must wear closed-toed, flat shoes!

They recommended dresses, slacks, sweaters and jackets for women. So I opted for the dress and flats. I apologize for the fuzzy photos. My camera produces better quality outside, but I didn't take these until after the event, and it was too dark outside my apartment for quality pictures!

Ensemble:
Dress: Express
Shoes: Marc Fisher (Macy's)
Cropped Cardigan: H&M
Earrings: Mint
Necklace: Vendor @ Shecky's Girl's Night Out

So those of us who paid strict attention to the dress code were surprised when we showed up to find everyone in line for the audience was wearing whatever they wanted, and still got in...oh well, you win some and you lose some! I saw stilettos, white shirts, etc...Here are few pics of the amount of people in line to get in. The line was wrapped around the building...it was CRAZY!!

I thought the taping was going to start at 6pm, but it actually didn't start until 7pm. We had to wait outside while all the individual seaters sat first (we had about 28 of us in a group). We stood outside in the Houston heat for an hour...that's not a good look for any one trying to look cute! The humidity attacked us, and my hair fell flat...Dang, hope I actually didn't get on camera now! LOLOL. The taping won't actually premiere until the new season starts in the Fall.

**SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!**

The acts were half and half, some were really great, and the rest were terrible. I've actually never watched the show, so I had no idea about the buzzers...So I was cracking up when the judges were buzzing people in the middle of their horrible acts! This one girl (native of San Antonio) is an aerialist/gymnast, and she was flipping off of a 4"beam suspended in the hair by her husband and brother in law, with no net...it was so crazy and scary, I was freaking out! Then there was a knife throwing act that was good. This 17 year old boy sang really really well. There was an 18 year old boy that sang a song from Broadway's Jekyl & Hyde....All of those acts were good...but of course for entertainment there had to be the horrendous ones...

There was this 60 year old woman that came out in like full faux leather with this crazy blonde wig hair who tried to be Tina Turner. There was Bad Mime, and the name of his act, was actually "THe Bad Mime", and yea he got it right, because he was horrendous! Then there were these creepy, awkward stilt walker people...the worst was this duo of voluptuous females who rapped and danced to "Drop It Low"...uh yea...they were X-d! AHAHAHA But going to the taping was so fun! They had food and drink there, and I was there with my friends!

**SPOILER OVER! SPOILER OVER! SPOILER OVER! SPOILER OVER! SPOILER OVER!**

I was able to take a picture with one of the auditioners (The Aerialist), so if she wins the show, I can say I met her and took a pic with her!

The Aerialist and I

Afterwards my friends and I stopped by a bar that was right next door to the Theater, where I saw this creepy sign in the woman's bathroom

Quickly after discovering this sign we made a quick exit and stopped for a quick picture before heading home.
