Zumba is a dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez in Colombia during the 1990s. The program combines international music with dance in an effort to make exercise fun. Zumba classes are offered through licensed instructors in more than 110,000 locations in over 125 countries.
As you may know from some of my "facts" post, I'm completely obssessed with Zumba. The best exercise class that doesn't feel like exercise! It's more dancing...and dancing to EVERYTHING! I've been doing Zumba for 3 years now, and I've had so many different instructors and they all keep it fresh and new! There's Hip-Hop, Salsa, Samba, Combien, Regga, African Rhythm, Modern music! Just everything. For awhile I noticed a lot of girls were coming to my Zumba classes with these belly dancer inspired waist garbs...well I wanted one too! So I bought one last weekend at the Houston International Festival. I wore it for the first time to my Monday Zumba class, but I only took pictures today for my Saturday class.
Rght now I've been attending Zumba classes at my gym 24 Hr Fitness. On Wednesdays, Houston's Discovery Green Park holds a free Zumba Session. So fun! Not only do they offer Zumba on Wednesdays, but they offer other free fitness classes during the week too! Yoga on Saturdays, Bum-ba on Mondays...lots of fun! I love the Zumba instructor for the Discovery Green Session, he's so fun and energetic shown below. The class at the park gets way crowded, but I still go!
Zumba is becoming a worldwide phenomen, and if you are interested in taking some classes go to http://www.zumba.com/. You can also buy fun Zumba apparel off of the website like these:
