Well, which is it?
There aren't enough Macs and Mac users out there to count as anything, or they're all smug and worthy of a slap in the face?
People can't have it both ways. Actually, I would say it's the easiest thing in the world to have it both ways in this case, because the scenarios you describe aren't mutually exclusive. Remember, the hacker world is not monolithic. While the majority of hackers may consider mac users a waste of time, it only takes one with some time on her hands and a beef against (smug) Mac zealots to write a virus for OS X, and that's that. I can tell you as someone who works with hackers (half of my buddies are at BlackHat this week) that OS X is NOT inherently secure, and that there are plenty of vulnerabilities that surface on it that are well-known in the "hacker" community long before they are made "public," and also long before they are also repaired by Apple.
OS X is definitely inherently more secure than Windows, but the near-complete lack of viruses/use of other exploits for them is definitely not because they are ironclad in terms of security. That should be abundantly clear from a cursitory reading of the kbase article on the latest security update. Many of those fixes were to rootkit holes! As in, god-sized sized security holes...
I'm not trying to rant or anything, but I've definitely realized in the last few months of my internship that OS X is not nearly as secure as I'd previously assumed, and also that there are a growing number of hackers that are pissed off--or at least find it amusingly laughable-- that Apple and followers are so brazenly smug about security. I hate Symantec just as much as the rest of you for their shameless plugs of their USELESS mac software, but that doesn't mean that OS X is anywhere near impenetrable, especially if you use simple word passwords--and you bet your butt the average mac user does this, if he even sets a password at all.

Yup, most of the waste is for military technology and planes like the raptor that were built for cold-war style fighting. That era is dead. No offense intended, but that poster clearly has NO IDEA what the US uses its ridiculously large military budget for.
There's also the Airborne Laser, which was an utterly stupid idea. There's the virtual fence Boeing was paid to build to secure the US/Mexico border that never worked...

I think this is a cool idea but I dont think that the screen is big enough to read a book, youll only be able to get a few lines on the screnn, sony's idea looks cool but its too big.
If it was to come out I think that you would have to have free downloads or downloads at a very little cost eg $0.10 for a downloadable newspaper, that is the only way I can see it working.
PS. I think Apple will have to do more with this iPod with all the features coming with Microsoft's Zune, I cant wait to see.

But don't they manage patches with Mac OS X all the time... ? And Mac OS X has much more of the OS exposed and accessible to the user (more to be tinkered with).
There is a common issue where the OSX patches don't work right, and people's answer is always to go get the Combo Upgrade and use that instead. Many people just start at the Combo these days. I'm always willing to cope with a larger download if it makes things easier later. Even when I was on 1.5Mbps connection, I'd just let the download run while I sleep.
Personally, I'm fine with plugging my phone into my dock. (which is also a USB hub, for those worried about # of ports) It's almost as easy as setting it on a table, so I don't really care about wifi updates. I'd rather charge while downloading large files instead of burning battery.
It's fine for those that can't be bothered with a wired setup, or have only a laptop, I guess.

Sounds like Wal-Mart may have an as-yet-unannounced partnership with MS or Amazon (more likely the latter, as Amazon is already delivering movies).
Why else throw this much weight at the issue?
Time will tell at this point...
Oh, and I agree - F Wal-Mart!

The secular bible might come off as a silly idea. But i've often pondered what i will tell my kids when the day comes and they ask "some people in my class are christian and some are jewish, what are we?" Kids hate feeling excluded, so i feel like saying we don't have a religion wouldnt go over well because they really don't understand what it means.
Free.
Free to think as we want, when we want. Free to be critical of dogma. Free not to have a label attached to us.
My eldest son who is 17 is actually quite a bit more informed on the religious practices of most world religions than any of his classmates, religious or not.
As mentioned, I don't see the necessity in having a book on how not to do something. A genuine guide on humanistic ethics and morality might be useful but then most people, religious or not, might find it so.

Those who design websites with Flash are just lazy and poor web designers. Fortunately, those sites are becoming more and more rare.
It's video (YouTube, et al) that Flash has a stranglehold on.
I want HTML5 video to become standardized too, but the problem is, on what? QuickTime? Windows Media? It could very well end up much worse than Flash.

I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't want any other news than the iPad until the iPad is released.
My guess is New MBP's won't be released until atleast a week or two after the iPad.
I'm totally with you. Apple is launching a totally new product line. This is very important for them. If you look at the main page at Apple.com you see the iPad. Apple doesn't want any distractions from that until after the iPad launches.
So I guess the earliest would be April 13.
Here is another thought. The back-to-school promotions usually start at the end of May. By then the first wave of iPad excitement could be waning. Perhaps the $199 credit you get for buying a laptop this summer could be applied to the purhase of an iPad. Buy a laptop and get an iPad for just $300. Not a bad deal.
The other thing to consider is that Intel is rumored to be brining out a lower power version of Arrandale sometime in the middle of this year. Maybe it is better to wait for that one?

Doesn't most of the internet use flash?
Not on mobile devices...
I would not feel so strongly about this if Adobe could write a stable, fast, less vulnerable version of flash for the Mac.
However as of today Adobe has shown they could give a rats ass about Apple and Flash is proof. It is buggy, it crashes a lot, even with hardware acceleration it is still a cpu hog and it seems every time I turn around another security exploit has been found.
Apple please keep Flash off of your iOS products and keep moving forward with html5.

I really hope they put a graphics card in it (even 64MB) and an 802.11N capable wifi card.
keep wishing. for the graphics card. I wish apple would get a clue on this one, ie give a option of this for the higher end one.
but you will get the wifi card!! so.. 1/2 full, 1/2 empty.
i needed the graphics, so i got the MBP.

I remain optimistic that Apple will release a new classic with more storage space. Something like the new 220gb toshiba drives would do nicely. ( I think it's 220gb) I don't really see the need to discontinue the classics, they are great. Plus touch screens aren't for everyone, I get really annoyed when I'm out with gloves on, changing albums is a right pain! I also can't press the iPod in my pocket to change the song, like I can do with the classic. I really hope they don't discontinue the Classic.

there are copious and abundant examples of self-centered, amoral, greedy bastards preaching jesus to the masses:
Amen to that ... preaching should be banned ... even more so when they pass the collection plate around
As for an Atheist Bible ... forget about it.
Real non-believers are just that ... no need to waste time reading crap people are trying to sell.
Just more annoying preachers

A little more from the La Monde Diplomatique article (http://mondediplo.com/2008/02/05military) ...
Higher spending, fewer jobs
On 1 May the Center for Economic and Policy Research of Washington, DC, released a study prepared by the economic and political forecasting company Global Insight on the long-term economic impact of increased military spending. Guided by economist Dean Baker, this research showed that, after an initial demand stimulus, by about the sixth year the effect of increased military spending turns negative. The US economy has had to cope with growing defence spending for more than 60 years. Baker found that, after 10 years of higher defence spending, there would be 464,000 fewer jobs than in a scenario that involved lower defence spending.
Baker concluded: “It is often believed that wars and military spending increases are good for the economy. In fact, most economic models show that military spending diverts resources from productive uses, such as consumption and investment, and ultimately slows economic growth and reduces employment”.

That is fine. I'm not telling you what your opinion should be. I'm just saying, I found the story to be quite good, and all of the levels seemed very logical in their order and importance. The fact that you missed all the dates in all the cutscenes might explain why you found them to be "random" in their occurrence. The story was VERY far from rubbish, in my opinion.
I think it boils down to expectations. If you are happy living another chapter of the story, then it's ok. If a player is anticipating a "new" experience, I'd agree that there is room for disappointment from a story perspective. However I thought the space flying was fun. If I critique it, story wise there seems to be no revelations regarding mankind's prequel pre-Halo encounter with the Covenant. Their on Reach, mostly run around and fight'm. I think it confirms it's time to put the Halo story to bed.
My favorite Halo games are the original and Halo 3. Halo 3 is amazing. No surprises there? :)

The guys at Bungie have finally posted ALL of the playlist changes that are coming tomorrow (Oct. 5, 2010). Mostly just reorganizing of playlists and things like that, but some gametype adjustments as well. So, if you had something that was bugging you, check the list and see if it has been addressed. They only come in glossy screens now? Damn... im a photojournalist and need color accuracy on screen and it would NOT be good if things looked to have more contrast then they actually do. :(
Matte has never been an option in the MacBook -- that died with the iBook.
You can still choose beween matte and glossy in the MacBook Pro.

Also why is a cup of tea/coffee up there? There is a small 3rd party prog that uses the icon, I'm just wondering why its up there... perhaps to promote the use of Macs in coffee shops =)

I hope the Beatles catalog will include both versions. For example, the mono version of Blue Jay Way was much different than the stereo version, so I'll have to get both.
Again like the LOVE Album, they should also include a separate DVD mixed 5.1. disc. If you have not heard it that way, you will be astounded at how fresh it all sounds...

Developers aren't the problem. A lot of it is Internet Explorer and Microsoft not supporting standards. For one, IE doesn't do much html5. Microsoft will probably never support the svg-based "flash killer" canvas tag. Also, due to bickering on all browser makers, HTML5 doesn't specify a mandatory video format so you have Apple doing mpeg-4, Firefox and friends doing ogg, and IE supporting nothing. And let's not forget users who still run IE6.
No, LETS PLEASE forget about users running IE6. For GOD's sake, It's an 8 year old browser!
